IJIS emerged from an informal network of researchers mostly from Psychology and Sociology. These researchers, many of whom were among the early pioneers of Internet Science, share a common interest in substantial empirical research on the use of the Internet for research and on the Internet's impact on human behavior. IJIS represents a platform for both kinds of interests.
The International Journal of Internet Science is listed in the Index of Information Systems Journals.
